This movement highlights the purchasing section and guides the user to ticket selection. In the mood for something themed? Mission Tiki Drive-In is tiki-themed, which will make you feel as though you’ve jetted off to Hawaii and are enjoying an outdoor film along the shores of Oahu (okay, maybe not quite, but pretty close). The user’s focus moves to purchasing tickets after the trailer ends: After the trailer is complete, the video section of the screen automatically reverts to the banner state and the purchasing information moves back up into view. The user is aware of there they are in the context of the available info on the page: we used a simple animation where the ticket information, title, and showtime (all the ancillary information) moved downwards and out of the way to show them that the information is still there. The user focuses on watching the trailer: we moved the purchasing elements and the movie title and showtime out of the way so that the user could focus on watching the trailer The user is aware of and connects with the specific movie: The user recognizes which movie trailer they are watching Our goals for the trailer experience were to ensure that:

We created a page where potential customers could watch trailers without having to leave the site, thus increasing the chances that they would purchase a ticket from Electric Dusk. We found that people were looking for improvement in four main areas of their experience with Drive-In theaters:ġ00% of users said that they wanted to watch a trailer before purchasing a movie ticket. People know that a drive-in theater provides a “retro” experience, but they also have modern expectations about how the venue will serve them. This disjointed purchasing experience results in potential customers losing focus on their initial objective – they leave the site, do not purchase tickets, and they do not return to continue browsing.Īdditionally, Electric Dusk’s in-person experience has a complete absence of digital enhancements. The Problem: An Inconvenient Experience Without Customer ControlĮlectric Dusk’s purchasing experience forces potential customers to leave their site to learn about their offerings. Additionally, they wanted the new site to reflect the delightful experience that customers have in real life, and were looking for guidance on ways that they could use their digital presence to improve the in-person customer experience. The Electric Dusk leadership team was looking to redesign their digital experience so that users can watch trailers and purchase tickets on their own site. Electric Dusk Drive-In is a pop-up drive-in theater in Los Angeles, CA.
